Last week, we did something fun at Meat Madam. We asked our team to share the weirdest meat combos they’ve ever tried. Some of the answers shook us to the bone! Here are a few of the combos they mentioned…
1. Suya With Chocolate Spread.
Amira isn’t afraid of bold experiments, and this one raised eyebrows across the office. She told us that the weirdest meat combo she tried was suya dipped in chocolate spread.
When we asked her how it tasted and if she would recommend it, here's what she said;
“It’s not something you eat every day, but that sweet-and-smoky mix worked better than I expected. 6.5/10.”
2. Goat Meat Pepper-Soup With Coconut Rice And Fried Plantain.
Favour went all-in with this comfort-food. She poured steaming goat pepper soup over creamy coconut rice and crowned it all with fried plantain.
Her Verdict was..
“The heat met the sweet and they became best friends. That’s an easy 8/10.”
3. Rib-eye Steak And Banga Soup.
This one is Samuel’s doing. He gave rib-eye steak a local twist by pairing it with rich banga soup. Imagine the juicy beef slices soaking up the banga soup’s smoky, nutty depth.
When asked what he thought about that combo, he said…
“It was pure genius! Steak and Banga soup belong together. So I'm giving it 9/10”.
4. Fried Chicken And Custard Dip.
Aisha shocked everyone with her sweet-meets-savory adventure: crispy fried chicken dipped in vanilla custard.
One would imagine it to taste like chicken and ice cream which could be good for some and not so much for others.
For Aisha though, it was totally confusing to her taste buds.
Her Verdict was…
“Strange, sweet and crunchy. Not an everyday food, but hey, it wasn’t terrible. 5.5/10.”
5. Smoked Ram And Pineapple Jam.
Oreoluwa went tropical with her combo. She tried smoky ram slices brushed with pineapple jam.
Hearing it, I could imagine the sweetness of the jam cut through the ram’s bold, meaty flavor, almost like a barbecue glaze but fruitier.
In Oreoluwa’s words, it was “Tangy, smoky, and sweet… it actually slapped harder than I thought. 7/10.”
6. Suya And Dried Garri.
Musa brought some real Naija street-food energy. He said he tried some Suya with dry garri. I knew that suya could be combined with soaked garri, but suya with dry garri? that's a first.
He described the combo as chewy, crispy, and grainy all at once, a quick snack to keep you going, and he gave it 7.5/10”.
7 Peppered Snail With Noodles And Mayonnaise.
Precious pulled the classic “midnight hunger special”. According to her, she woke up in the middle of the night very hungry, and found a few peppered snails sitting in her fridge. Too small to satisfy her hunger, she went hunting for reinforcements and only found a pack of noodles and some mayo. So, in true midnight-craving fashion, she tossed the snails into the noodles—and for reasons best known to her—finished it off with a scoop of mayo.”
Precious’ Verdict: “It's not fine dining, but for a midnight snack? it's perfect'' . She rated the comfort junk at 6/10.
