The Rain, The Market, and The Madness
It was a Thursday evening...
...one of those rainy, sticky, mud-filled Lagos Thursdays.
I had planned to make peppered goat meat for my family that evening.
A simple enough dish, or so I thought.
Until I found myself jumping puddles in an open market, arguing with a meat seller who swore his soggy, fly-infested goat meat was “today’s kill"...
...and I could swear, IT WAS NOT.
After checking three stalls, wasting fuel, ruining a pair of sneakers and coming home empty-handed, I sat on my kitchen stool and asked the one question that changed everything:
“Why is buying good meat in this city so stressful?”
The Problems Were Everywhere
The more I thought about it, the clearer it became. Buying meat shouldn’t feel like a survival sport. But in Lagos, it was exactly that.
I started asking friends, in case there was a trick I hadn’t discovered, and the stories I heard were wild.
One friend said she once found a tooth in her beef.
Another bought chicken that defrosted into a watery mess with a smell she still hasn’t recovered from.
Someone else said she had given up and had completely switched to sardines.
This wasn’t just an inconvenience. It was a BIG PROBLEM.
The Three Big Issues
1. No Hygiene Standards:
The markets didn’t care about temperature control, surface cleanliness, or even basic packaging. You had to pray your immune system was strong enough to survive the meat you bought with your own money!
2. Time Wasted:
Buying meat takes up hours of your day and half your patience.
3. No Trust:
You never really knew what you were getting, or where it was coming from.
How could I help solve these problems? I went into critical thinking mode.
The Birth Of Meat Madam 🐄✨
That night, an idea hit me:
What if people could get clean, properly processed meat delivered right to their doorstep, without stress?
I imagined a world where:
- Meat is processed hygienically and neatly portioned.
- People could order meat on their phones and get it delivered within 24 hours.
- People could be confident in the qual1ty and safety of what they feed their family.
So I rolled up my sleeves, found suppliers I could trust, built a small but mighty team, invested in clean processing methods, and launched Meat Madam.
The Journey So Far
Has it been easy? Absolutely not.
- We’ve had days when deliv3ry vans got stuck in Lagos traffic for 3 hours.
- We’ve dealt with skeptics who couldn’t believe meat could actually come clean, vacuum-packed, and on time.
- We’ve had to learn, unlearn, and relearn everything from logistics to packaging to customer service.
But Today?
- We’ve served hundreds of families in Lagos and beyond.
- Our beef, chicken, goat, ram, and snail meats have made their way into Sunday stews, dinner nights, and weekend grills.
- And we’ve become a go-to name for clean, trustworthy, premium meat.
What I’ve Learnt
If there’s anything this journey has taught me, it’s that people want ease, not complications...
...They want to know their meat is clean, their orders won’t disappear, and their health isn’t at risk...
...It’s not just about being fancy, it’s about being reliable...
...And we’ve worked hard to be just that.
Looking Ahead
We’re just getting started. Like I said, it's the BEGINNING OF THE BEGINNING.
We’re expanding our delivery zones, introducing new meat combos, and rolling out more ways to make your meat-buying experience even smoother
